The Parish Nursing Interest Group are holding an education day in Kitchener on Saturday, September 30th. What will be covered? The use of story telling in nursing practice with key note speaker Carolyn Wilker, an author and story teller. Food provided. We do hope that some of you will be able to attend.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Intensive Training: Deadline September 1, 2017

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the ‘link’ between our thoughts, behaviours and emotions.  This is done by identifying distorted thinking through automatic thoughts, challenging and modifying maladaptive schemas, beliefs and behaviours, and helps one to recognize how they relate to others and their environments. CBT is an intervention that teaches clients to identify, evaluate and respond to dysfunctional beliefs and thoughts.

This is a great video for clinicians working with this population to better understand the challenges associated with this group and can be used with client families during psycho-educational sessions.

Mental Health Documentary: Lost Boys

Lost Boys is a documentary that focuses on the unique mental health challenges of young men. 

We hear the stories of Brian, Mike, Tallan and Nolan as well as leading experts in the field who discuss the signs and symptoms of mental illness and addiction. 

The term Lost Boys refers to a generation of young men, approximately aged 15-25, who have often turned to gaming, substance use and isolation in response to a variety of cultural factors.

This year’s CFMHN conference was held in beautiful Kelowna, B. C. and I would like to thank the MHNIG for supporting my attendance at this wonderful event and to share some of the conference highlights with you. The theme of the conference for 2013 was “Mental Health Nursing…A Journey of Collaboration, Culture & Change” and the event truly lived up to it’s title!
